Sarnia – Things to See and Do

Sarnia offers many opportunities for fun and relaxation, whether you're a local, new in town, or just passing through.

Enjoy miles of waterfront, lake/river access, white sand beaches, hipster restaurants, walking trails, and a small but vibrant downtown.

The roads are a grid system and are an easy and flat bike ride, if you are up for the exercise.

You can get anywhere or anything you need in 20 minutes or less.

The highway (402) runs though the center of the city – providing a shortcut to quickly get across town.

Weekend Getaways:

Grand bend (beach) - 30 minute drive

Detroit, USA and London, Ontario - 1 hour drive

Toronto - 2.5 hour drive

The Sarnia farmers market

Sarnia has two farmer’s markets - the farmers are friendly, the food is high quality, and don’t miss the meat counter, or forget to sample the spring rolls for a snack.




Kayaking & Water sports

Renting a kayak at the many lakes is inexpensive and you can always walk the shoreline - a great way to spend a Saturday.

Sarnia’s not so best kept secret

Bridge fries and ice cream is a staple when living in Sarnia. These are fries you won’t soon forget.



First Fridays

Every first Friday of the month is First Friday! Especially popular in the summer months, businesses open their doors until late, and people flood the downtown area to enjoy live music, restaurants, bars, galleries, and shops.

The Alix gallery

is a free public art gallery located in Downtown and has a solid art scene, offering gallery openings, exhibitions, tours, lectures and classes.

The great outdoors / picnic in the park:

Green spaces with scenic views are easy to come by in Sarnia.

Wawanosh Wetlands Conservation Area – A 2.5 km nature trail

Howard Watson Trail- a 16 Km nature trail

Pinery Park - 10 km of sand beach on the shores of Lake Huron

Lamrecton - is a little park with 100 feet of sandy beach

Mike Weir park - a Beachfront park with a sheltered picnic area

Canatara Park - a 1 km sandy beach within a sprawling Park and bike trail.


Enjoy live music:

Head to Paddy Flaherty’s for live music every weekend to hear local and acts from around the world. The outside patio is a place to visit for the atmosphere and views of the waterfront.

Lizards, Two Amigos, and Dockside, all have live music too.
